History

Astrotalk was founded by Puneet Gupta and Anmol Jain after Gupta’s earlier IT venture, CodeYeri, shut down, fulfilling an astrologer’s prediction that inspired him to enter the astrology business. Starting with ₹80 lakh in personal savings, the company was bootstrapped until its first institutional funding in 2023.[3][4]

In 2023, Astrotalk raised $20 million in a Series A funding round led by Left Lane Capital, followed by a $9.5 million extension in June 2024, valuing the company at $300 million.[5][6] In 2024, Astrotalk launched Astrotalk Store, entering the direct-to-consumer (D2C) market with spiritual products, generating an annualized run rate of ₹36-45 crore within four months.[7][8]

In November 2024, Astrotalk appointed former Google executive Siddharth Prakash Singh as its first Chief Technology Officer to bolster its technological infrastructure.[9]

Products and Services

Astrotalk’s core offering is its mobile application, available on Android and iOS, which facilitates consultations with over 41,000 astrologers, offering services like Vedic astrology, Tarot reading, Numerology, and Vastu advice. The platform supports multiple languages, including Hindi, to cater to regional users.[10][11]

The Astrotalk Store, launched in 2024, sells gemstones, healing stones, and spiritual accessories, contributing 5% to the company’s revenue.[12] Astrotalk is also developing artificial intelligence-powered features to enhance personalized astrological insights.[13]

Astrotalk operates a commission-based model, charging users a fee for consultations and sharing revenue with astrologers. The platform also earns from its e-commerce vertical and in-app advertisements. In FY24, Astrotalk reported operating revenue of ₹651 crore, a 133.6% increase from ₹282 crore in FY23, with a net profit of ₹100 crore, up 1080% year-on-year.[14][15] Approximately 20% of its revenue comes from international markets.[16]

Astrotalk serves over 2.5 million monthly users, with a strong presence in India and growing international markets, including the United States and Canada. It claims to have consulted with over 3 crore customers and dominates the Indian online astrology market.[17][18] The company competes with platforms like InstaAstro and Vama.[19]

Astrotalk has been lauded for its accessibility and scale, connecting millions with astrology services and achieving profitability without significant early funding. Its revenue growth and market dominance have been highlighted as a success story in India’s startup ecosystem.[20] However, the platform has faced criticism for inaccurate predictions, with some users labeling it as misleading, sparking debates about the reliability of online astrology.[21][22] Additionally, some astrologers have reported pressure to extend consultations, raising concerns about platform practices.[23]

Future Plans

Astrotalk is preparing for an initial public offering (IPO) within the next few years, targeting a revenue of over ₹2000 crore. The company plans to expand its e-commerce offerings, enhance AI-driven personalization, and grow its international presence, particularly in North America and Europe.[24][25]
