YourStory is an Indian digital media platform dedicated to entrepreneurship, startup companies, and small businesses. Founded in 2008 by Shradha Sharma, it provides news, in-depth stories, interviews, and resources for entrepreneurs, innovators, and investors. Headquartered in Bangalore, YourStory is a leading voice in India's startup ecosystem, offering content in English, Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, and other Indian languages to reach diverse audiences across urban and rural India.[1]

History

YourStory was launched in October 2008 by Shradha Sharma, a former journalist with The Times of India and CNBC TV18. Initially a blog focused on sharing inspiring entrepreneurial stories, it quickly gained traction for its authentic narratives about lesser-known founders. By 2012, YourStory had transformed into a comprehensive media platform, covering venture capital, angel investors, and emerging trends in India's startup landscape.[2]

In 2016, YourStory expanded into regional languages, starting with Hindi, to cater to entrepreneurs in Tier II, Tier III, and rural India, significantly broadening its reach.[3] By 2020, it included content in Kannada, Tamil, and Telugu, aligning with India's linguistic diversity.[4]

In 2025, YourStory Media Pvt. Ltd. signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) to promote entrepreneurship in non-metropolitan areas, reinforcing its mission to support grassroots innovation.[5] The platform also introduced initiatives like the "YourStory Future of Work Summit" to address evolving trends in remote work and technology-driven businesses.

Content and Features

YourStory offers a wide range of content tailored to the entrepreneurial community:

YourStory also hosts events like TechSparks, an annual startup conference that brings together founders, investors, and policymakers. TechSparks has featured prominent figures such as N. R. Narayana Murthy of Infosys and Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw of Biocon.[6] Other events include the "Women on a Mission" summit, which celebrates women entrepreneurs.[7]

The platform has also ventured into video content, podcasts, and newsletters, such as the "YourStory Podcast," which features discussions on entrepreneurship and innovation.[1]

Impact and Recognition

YourStory has played a pivotal role in shaping India's startup narrative by highlighting stories from underrepresented regions and communities, including women entrepreneurs and social enterprises. Its regional language initiatives have been lauded for promoting digital literacy and entrepreneurship in rural India.[4]

The platform has facilitated connections between startups and investors, contributing to the growth of companies like Byju's, Ola Cabs, and Swiggy. In 2021, YourStory was recognized by Forbes India as one of the top platforms for startup journalism.
